Personalize Your Own compatible Sonic Screwdriver - 12th Doctor (Hell Bent)
thingiverse
Print your very own "Personalize Your Own" Sonic Screwdriver, just like the 12th Doctor's from the 2015 episode "Hell Bent". Designed on Tinkercad, this build is forked from kightblade77 and heavily modified for FDM printing: https://tinkercad.com/things/dg0Brw6dRQJ. Get replacements at https://www.character-online.com/spare-parts-dr-who-inner-unit-for-personalized-sonic-screwdriver. If you find a US source for this part at a reasonable price, please let us know! This print should be compatible with http://smile.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-Personalize-Screwdriver-Combinations/dp/B0056EO5IS and http://smile.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-Trans-temporal-Sonic-Screwdriver. All the pieces are interchangeable. If you own the other two kits, that should bring your total up to five handles, five button sections, and ten ends (which can be used top or bottom). That's up to 2169 possible combinations, if my math is correct! I printed three of these on my Printrbot Play with Hatchbox PLA. The light blue translucent emitter was initially printed in ABS, but after multiple print failures I switched to translucent white PLA. After painting my first successful print, I started making design changes to make it more printable. My first change was splitting the blue and silver components into separately printable parts. This reduced the amount of support structure needed. I further split the silver into two rings, four bars, and a cage for the handle. The more pieces I used, the cleaner the final design. However, using more pieces means you'll have to glue more parts in the end. To assemble this kit, I recommend a Silver and Gold Sharpie, super glue, translucent white/clear or blue for the emitter, dark blue (Tardis blue?) for the large components, silver for the remaining parts, and a sealant.
