Perrot punctate variety Inner Lip: A distinctive shoulder motif found above and/or below either nested chevrons or panels of horizontal or oblique tool trails that are always separated by panels of vertical tool trails (Boszhardt 1994, page 194). Lip decoration features continuous tool notching located on the interior lip. Notches may be oriented either perpendicular or oblique to the left or right side (page 228). This artifact belongs to the Oneota culture and was discovered at La Crosse Locality. It dates back to the Late Prehistoric Period, specifically the Brice Prairie Phase, between A.D. 1300-1400. The artifact originates from Feature 4 Level 1 of the Sanford Archaeological District site, with a specific ID number: 2000.2569.31. It is curated at the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Boszhardt's research (1994) provides valuable insights into Oneota Group Continuity at La Crosse, specifically focusing on the Brice Prairie, Pammel Creek, and Valley View Phases. His findings are published in The Wisconsin Archaeologist 75(3-4), spanning pages 173-236.
