Perfect Thread ACME Flange Nuts

Perfect Thread ACME Flange Nuts

The ACME flange nut creation process involves printing two halves which are then clamped onto a leadscrew using a vice. The leadscrew is heated with a solder rework gun until the PLA softens, allowing threads to be formed by applying more pressure with the vice. Once cooled, the parts are unclamped and inspected for thread depth before being re-viced and welded together using PLA filament as welding material. However, heating the PLA has resulted in some warping of the flange, indicating room for improvement in this method.
