That's why a group of researchers has designed an extraordinary instrument, one capable of predicting storms from millions of kilometers away - but still not accurate enough for those living in coastal communities who face catastrophic loss of property. The ocean currents created by this huge body of water affect climate patterns all over the planet. Some claim that changes to global temperatures can be predicted with certainty if only scientists could predict exactly how these currents behave over time, because every region has unique interactions between the surface waters and deeper cold ocean layers.
