I work alongside entomologists who specialize in stink bug research, so I designed this piece of art as a tribute to my lab colleagues. "Pentatomidae, derived from Greek pente meaning five and tomos meaning section, refers to a family of insects within the order Hemiptera. Many species of stinkbugs and shield bugs are classified as agricultural pest insects due to their ability to form massive populations that feed on crops (resulting in significant damage to production), and they exhibit resistance to numerous pesticides. These pests pose a threat to cotton, corn, sorghum, soybeans, native trees, shrubs, vines, weeds, and many cultivated crops." Please visit: www.stopbmsb.org I created my design using wood and glow-in-the-dark PLA filament. After printing, I sanded the surface to achieve a smooth finish and then stained the entire piece.
