A 5-Way "Do-Nothing-Machine" based on the Trammel of Archimedes Design. The handle design prevents jamming issues with the system. I built full-scale models in Yellow, and several at half scale. The half-scale units are a bit sticky and the handles are weak, but they still work well. These were constructed on the da Vinci Mini. Overview and Background This project combines creativity and learning. Lesson Plan and Activity Use it for various subjects to engage students. Note: This design is in INCHES. Scale up 25.4x to convert it to millimeters. The Trammel of Archimedes, also known as the Do-Nothing-Machine, has been used under different names. When applied to drawing, it's an ellipsograph that showcases how circular motion consists of two oscillations. On a practical level, it's often used for creating ovals for picture frames. Materials Needed A pencil, pen, or marker to create an ellipse or oval shape.
