Penny Spinner Large, Small and Tiny 626-zz
thingiverse
I'm excited to create something with my 3D printer, and I've finally got around to printing a spinner/fidget. However, I had a bit of trouble finding a print file that fits all 19mm x 6mm holes perfectly. So, I decided to design a simple curve with 6mm inserts where I can epoxy pennies onto. As it turns out, the bigger one is a bit too big for me to spin by hand using the outer bearing, but I was able to make do with some shiny new coins from 2017. I'm having fun making this toy, and it's turned out to be quite interesting! To make it easier and faster, I've started applying epoxy to the button before inserting it into the bearing. This way, there's less chance of getting glue on the bearing. On the other hand, it's a bit tricky to center the 19mm penny with the 19mm bearing if the button is already inserted first - this can cause the epoxy to squish out and interfere with rotation. To solve this problem, I've added some new files to my collection: a Tiny spinner file and smaller lower profile glue buttons that are perfect for this job. I also created a button-to-penny centering jig, which makes it much easier to get everything lined up perfectly. Another update I made was changing the single centering jig from an 8-position one - it's so much simpler now! The jigs are reusable and really easy to clean out any excess glue blobs if you remove the penny before they fully set up. It's best to clamp them together for about 15-20 minutes with a 5-minute epoxy, then pop the insert into place so that the clamp foot is flush with the bottom of the jig. This creates a gap between the penny and the jig, preventing any bonding from occurring. To be safe, I let it dry upside-down to prevent the jig from sticking to the penny or insert.
