Penny Silva Bike
thingiverse
The Penny Silva is a 3D-printed, disposable bike inspired by classic Penny Farthing bicycles for urban use in 2040. Printed using bio-degradable cellulose for the frame and flexible polymer for wheels and seat, the bike degrades rapidly with a maximum lifespan of one week. By 2040, 3D printing machines are expected to be available at homes, enabling users to print bikes embedded with flower seeds during the printing process. After reaching the destination, users discard the bike, allowing it to decompose and expose the pre-embedded seeds. This concept highlights the contrast between future cityscapes and natural elements, as well as modern technology and early bicycle designs. The name Penny Silva combines "Penny Farthing" and "silva," meaning "growth" in Latin. The bike has minimal moving parts, a honeycomb wheel structure, and seed-infused materials for environmental friendliness. It also features a slim design, snap-fit assembly, and a bag hook on the frame. Bio-degradable polymer and cellulose 3D printing links are provided.
