Bottle Opener that Utilizes a Penny, SPU Engineering Class Project Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Silver Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 25% Notes: Heating the penny with a flame before inserting it into the slot proves useful and results in a tighter fit. Ensure all support material is removed from the slot where the penny is inserted, or else the penny will not go far enough inside. Aim to insert at least half of the penny, but ideally three-quarters, to prevent bending. Applying sufficient force is necessary. Post-Printing Remove support material from the slot containing the penny, as it can be easily removed with a small Allen key. If insufficient material is removed, the penny will not fit properly inside. Design Process I designed this bottle opener using CAD software (Solidworks) for my SPU engineering class. The design is intended to work in conjunction with the SPU Prosthetic Hand. While it was an original idea, further research revealed that the concept itself was not entirely new.
