Penguin
myminifactory
This knee-high statue stands tall as a beloved penguin icon. Originally donated by Louis Odette, a generous philanthropist and former LSE student, along with other animal friends, it proudly sits on the pavement in Portugal Street, right at the heart of the School's campus just off the Aldwych, where students have affectionately adopted it as their unofficial mascot for years now. In 2009, the statue mysteriously disappeared, prompting a touching display of community spirit as flowers, heartfelt poems, tins of sardines, and Penguin biscuits began to appear at the site, likely in hopes of enticing the penguin's return. An online Facebook campaign was also launched to locate the missing sculpture. Eventually, the decision was made to swap out the original penguin for a heavier, more secure model, which was installed in November 2009 and remains there to this day.
