A USB flash drive, commonly called as USB stick, thumb drive, pen drive or jump drive, is a compact data storage device that integrates flash memory with a USB interface. Removable, rewritable, and smaller than an optical disc, these drives usually weigh less than 30 grams. Since their debut in late 2000, capacities have increased while prices have dropped. As of March 2016, they range from 8GB to 1TB with plans for up to 2TB storage and continuous improvements in size and pricing. Memory chips determine the write/erase cycles, typically up to 100,000, and these drives have a shelf life of 10 years.
