Pendant, a stunning ornament suspended from a necklace, earring, or elegant bracelet. The pendant's origins date back to ancient times when people wore amulets around their necks as a form of protection. These early pendants were often made of teeth, stones, and shells, symbolizing the wearer's connection to nature. In ancient Egypt, pharaohs flaunted enormous pendants adorned with scenes of themselves being deified. Other designs featured winged scarabs, vultures, and sacred serpents, while Greek and Hellenistic pendants typically formed the entire necklace. During the Middle Ages, pendants took on a new significance as devotional objects, often featuring enameled crosses or reliquary pendants containing precious relics. During the Baroque period, there was a resurgence in engraved figures, intaglio cutting, and cameo design, framed within geometric patterns containing precious gems. These ornate pendants remained popular until the late 18th century, continuing to be crafted with precision and beauty, often featuring diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and pearls.
