Pencil shelf using round pencils
thingiverse
As you will read in the description of my "I Made One", I managed to locate four hex pencils long enough to be of use on the original pencil shelf, although I only found a handful. My children, however, had amassed a stash of usable pencil crayons, which they had previously relegated to the throwing away box. They claimed to have outgrown 'colouring in'. As a result, I created a remix. To facilitate this remake, I intentionally left blank the holes meant for pencil tips so users must saw each pencil down to a uniform length themselves. Each hole has an 8mm depth with 2mm of unbroken wall space surrounding it underneath. The diameters of my pencils measured approximately 7.7mm; the pencil holder's original blueprint indicated that each hole was supposed to be 8mm in diameter. Nonetheless, these specifications suffered from the notorious printing phenomenon where small features tend to disappear when a drawing is converted into a physical model as discussed here: http://hydraraptor.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/polyholes.html. In the top left-hand corner of this project photo is an owl print kindly contributed by Mark Gilbert - I'm deeply grateful to Mark.
