Pencil Holder/Phone Stand
thingiverse
The purpose of this design is to help students keep their desks organized throughout the school year while they’re doing remote learning. The pencil holder is designed to keep desks from being cluttered with things like pencils, erasers, and your phone. Rather than resting your phone flat on the desk, which takes up more space than necessary, you can utilize the front of the pencil holder to hold your phone. Students can put their pens and pencils into the pencil holder. At the side of the design, there’s a pocket of space to keep small things like erasers or pencil sharpeners. Everything you might need at your desk for remote learning, with the exception of your computer and papers, can be kept in one place. Some issues I came up against had to do with the size constraint. I didn’t expect a simple pencil holder to be too big, but since I added a bottom compartment and a phone stand, I realized I needed it to be bigger. I could’ve taken out the bottom completely and made the pencil holder bigger, but I kept it and settled with minimizing the size of the pencil holder. Overall, the entire design ended up being 5.5” × 3” × 3”, so it can be printed with the MakerBot Sketch 3D Printer. If I could redesign this again, I would probably reevaluate how much material is needed to hold up the phone. Since the pencil holder is already at a slight angle, having the phone rest against it might make it tip over. 3D printing would help strengthen my design because it would help me see the flaws in my design while it’s actually being used.
