I've recently visited Russia last year and came across an enormous old factory still in operation. Towering smokestacks belched thick black smoke into the air, leaving me with a somber feeling. It was a poignant moment for me, highlighting our excessive consumption and rapid pace of life. I had quickly jotted down a sketch on the spot but soon forgot about it. However, while dining at a café in Milano, Italy last month, I stumbled upon my notebook and this design took shape. I dubbed it "MILANO," as a reminder that's where this concept reached new heights. This simple yet practical pencil holder features pencils arranged to resemble smoke rising from chimneys. It serves as a thought-provoking reminder to use resources wisely and consider the functionality of every line before committing it to paper. I believe this is the underlying principle behind effective, minimalist design.
