Card style filament swatches while nice, have always been a little…flat; which is unfortunate for such a 3 dimensional medium. There are many properties a filament can have that just aren't visible on a flat card, like how glittery filaments catch the light when printed at an angle, or how some filaments are much worse at sharp overhangs than others - things that could make or break a print, but aren't obvious on a simple card sample.

This model also includes an end cap for the model that slots into the hole running down the pencil's shaft so that you can easily identify the most important defining feature of the filament at a glance. Included are a premade cap labeled PLA and PETG, but you could also use the blank one to make your own identification system based on filament printing temperature or brand or how easy it is to print with. Or make them all white and pretend you've printed out some fancy art pencils.

Other features include:

Both embossed and debossed text, to demonstrate legibility

two bridging tests and an unsupported 60° overhang

A vertical hole running down the length of the pencil for filament to run through with a tolerance of 0.25mm

hexagons

A blank face to custom emboss/write on/make a label of the filament's name and details

Easy storage - no need for a custom holder that fills up annoying fast, just put them in the nearest pen holder/pencil case/finished cup of tea

Originally intended for the August 26th filament sample contest. However, it never actually got published or submitted due to…user error
