Designing a Pencil Using SolidWorks To bring your pencil to life, launch SolidWorks and begin creating a new part. Start by sketching out the basic shape of your pencil using the 2D Sketch tool. You can use standard shapes or draw freehand for a more custom look. Next, extrude your sketch into a 3D solid body using the Extruded Boss/Base feature. This will give you the initial shape of your pencil. You may need to add some fillets and chamfers to smooth out any sharp edges. To create the iconic hexagonal grooves on a traditional pencil, use the Sweep feature with a circular profile. Simply draw a circle on a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation, then sweep it along the length of your pencil body. Add a few more details such as a ferrule and an eraser cap using the same techniques. You can also add some texture or patterns to give your pencil a unique look. Once you're satisfied with your design, generate a 2D drawing view and make any necessary adjustments before moving on to the manufacturing stage.
