Pencil cap with clip and hardness indicator
prusaprinters
I made this pencil cap so I would be able to throw my pencils in my bag without worrying about breaking the lead. The lid is held on tight by friction and also attaches to the back of the pencil so you don't lose it while writing or sketching. The clip works well and I've kept some pencils in my jacket pocket for a couple of days without the cap coming off. The cap is made to fit pencils around 7 mm thick (most pencils in the world, except maybe some specialized art pencils). It's also made to fit “long point” pencils (since that's the kind of sharpener I have), but it fits all shorter points as well.Hardness indicatorsI've also included caps with hardness indicators for the artists out there. Lines/pips on the right side of the clip corresponds to “B”-levels, and lines on the left correspond to “H”-levels, with an HB level (standard school/office pencil) in the middle with one line on each side. So three lines on the right side of the clip means you're holding a 3B pencil, one line on the left is an H, and so on. If you're a fan of the US system (yes, I did some research!), feel free to use B- or H-levels 1-4 to tell your no. 2 from your no. 3.PrintingThese are made to be printable without supports, lying flat on the clip. It prints fine like this in PLA on my Mini, but as always, your mileage may vary. The caps in the photos were printed at 0.1 mm layer height, and I haven't tested going thicker than that. Infill doesn't really matter much for these in my experience, use something that prints fast and makes you happy. Just to give you a number – my caps are all printed with 15% infill.
