Pen turning blank, chuck clamp.
cults3d
I decided to design and print an adapter that would enable me to securely hold square pen turning blanks in my lathe chuck for drilling purposes. I crafted the adapter to have a 46mm outer diameter when holding a 19mm square blank, which matches the internal size of my chuck jaws perfectly. The clamps will grip blocks down to 18MM square and up to 20MM in size. In the photo, you'll see an 18MM wood blank with a hole through it, where the two halves are almost together, while the acrylic blank is 19.5mm with a noticeable gap between the two halves. When using this clamp, exercise extreme caution, ensuring that the blank is held tightly and accurately in place, and that the chuck has a secure connection around the outside of the clamp. Additionally, always wear a full-face mask when woodturning, as unforeseen events can occur. I hope this adapter proves helpful to someone out there. If you try it, please post pictures of your results. You can also find me on Instagram at Think On Designs.
