Thermoelectric cooling employs the Peltier effect to facilitate heat transfer between two different material junctions. A Peltier device, heater, or thermoelectric heat pump is an active solid-state heat pump that redistributes heat from one side to another upon electrical energy consumption, depending on current direction. Also termed as a Peltier refrigerator, solid state cooler, or thermoelectric chiller (TEC), this instrument serves either heating or cooling purposes; however, in practical applications, it is predominantly utilized for cooling. Additionally, the device can act as a temperature controller that heats or cools accordingly.
