Human: v0.8, Monday 22 August 2016.\nUPDATE, 31 Oct 2016: a new improved prototype has been published at: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1861347\nThis innovative attempt designs a full-parametric, customizable prototype extruder for plastic pellets that can work seamlessly with common 3D printers. A real extruder would be printed out of metal (stainless steel) on a smaller scale and many parts will need to be added or improved (for instance: the head should accept standard screw-in nozzles; the axis should be coupled with a stepper motor, possibly with geared reduction; a controlled heating system should be applied around the stator for melting pellets; different types of flange should be added for connecting the extruder to common 3D printers). However, this prototype can already be printed in plastic and may be suitable for preliminary tests with soft pellets (chocolate granules? Play-Doh?). It is hoped that it will work well when extruding by hand without a heating system. We plan to test it soon and post the results along with an improved version of the design.
