Inventory Number: 32736 Description: Pilgrim's Horn of Hafner-type. The pilgrim's horn dates back to the fourteenth century and was crafted in Langerwehe, Germany. The horn possesses a ceremonial nature, in that such items were used to display relics, like Mary's tunic. When blown loudly, it served to ward off evil and participate in festive joy. Pilgrim's horns were sometimes carried by travelers (pilgrims) back home, where they would be used during thunderstorms, lunar eclipses, and other unsettling events.
