PegStats is a powerful tool designed to facilitate students' exploration of statistical concepts in an engaging and interactive manner. The system consists of pegs featuring numbers on their surface, which are carefully arranged according to the specific distribution you specify through your prints. By drawing these pegs from the set you've printed, students can easily create histograms that provide a comprehensive representation of the population by sliding them into the accompanying tray. PegStats is adaptable and suitable for use across various educational levels, ranging from elementary school to college. While it excels in teaching histograms, it also effectively handles more complex topics such as bimodal populations, the impact of filtering, and the limitations of mean values in describing a population. Furthermore, students can employ ANOVA on these populations, showcasing its versatility. In addition, PegStats enables students to record the numbers on the pegs they select and use them for statistical calculations, covering a wide range from calculating means to proving that a distribution is normal. To aid educators, I've included a PDF file (PegStats Details) containing lesson ideas that can be tailored to their teaching needs. The math manipulative in PegStats shares a remarkable similarity with an activity I conducted during my first college chemical engineering lab, where we used resistors instead of pegs. This experience underscores the potential for learners to scale up their understanding to advanced levels.
With this file you will be able to print PegStats with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on PegStats.
