In my search for the perfect 3D-printed rivet to use with pegboard holders on my current pegboard, I developed the CrabRivet. The rivet here is intended to be used on 1/4 inch thick pegboard with 1" hole spacing and 1/4 inch diameter holes; which I find common in North America. Since a rivet needs to be closely coupled to the specifications of the actual pegboard, you will need to measure your pegboard to see if it matches.

In printing and using many of the existing holders that use the older "hooks", I found tools were not held snug. I printed existing PLA rivets with varying success. In using a plastic rivet, an insert causes the 'feet' to expand resulting in a tight fit. Using a piece of filament is the most convenient insert for makers which also gives strength to the rivet and allows it to be printed face down, which yields a better looking result.

I've attempted to solve the filament hole problem by using a tapered hole which will expand the ends of the rivet for a tight fit. The rivet is a flat head, designed for holes that are 7mm in Dia. It is designed to be flush mounted with a 11mm hole. It requires 2mm of plate material. See Drawing.

Part of the problem in making rivets is that printer/slicer settings differ and FDM has difficulty in making precise small holes and so you will need to test the rivet to see if it works for you. I can change the tolerances to make other variations if there is a need.

You may need to clean the rivet of any excess plastic and I find a 1/16 or 2mm drill bit helpful to ream out the front hole. I printed mine in PLA at 0.2mm. No support or brim was needed in my tests.

I've included 2 test holders you can try. The pliers holder may need some support. I went to Printer Settings > Support Material > Overhang threshold and set to 10.

If you need to remove the rivet, first push the filament through with a small hex key or driver.

If you try the rivet, let me know if it worked as I might be able to modify for your needs.
