Pegboard Mounted Spool Holder w/bearings
prusaprinters

A simple, threaded spool holder that runs on bearings and mounts to a pegboard. Save some desktop space or get that spool off your printer.

BOM:
3 x M8 nuts. (5/16th also works)

Some 8mm threadded rod. (5/16th also works)

2 x 608ZZ bearings (Skate bearings)

6 x M3 bolts in various lengths to assemble arm and bracket

6 x M3 nuts or nylock nuts

Print Instructions:

This print is basically two components: The spool holder (Two piece screw) and the mount (arms and bracket). I highly urge the use of ABS/PETG/ASA for this. Print the Spool holder parts using the same resolution and infill or things will fit funny. Use supports to help fill in the gaps in between the build plate and bearing insert. Infill should be about 25% or higher (3D Infill like gyroid or cubic). Print the mount with a high infill for strength. Use supports for the straight arm for the nut cutout.

Assembly:

Assemble the mount using the M3 bolts and nuts. Attach the 8mm (or 5/16th) rod to the mount. Secure it in place using two nuts, one on each side of the straight arm of the mount. Insert a 608ZZ bearing into each side of the 'inner part' threaded side of spool holder. Slide on to rod and then secure on using another M8 (or 5/16th) nut. The Spool nut then screws over the inner part to complete the holder. I recommend screwing and unscrewing the two spool holder parts several times to help wear down the extra material around the threading.
