A digital thickness gauge is an incredibly useful tool - especially when working as a bike mechanic. It's fantastic for measuring disc brake rotor thickness quickly and accurately. Typically, disc rotors arrive at 1.8mm (others may be thicker) and generally need to be replaced once they've worn down to under 1.5mm. As they tend to wear the most in the center of the rotor, a standard set of calipers doesn't work as well. A micrometer works effectively but is a bit slower to use. This little gadget, however, gets the job done quickly and easily and accurately. Just like any tool, if you can't locate it fast, you might not use it.
