Pegassus, derived from Latin: Pegasus, Pegasos, stands as a mythical, divine horse with wings and one of the most iconic figures in Greek mythology. Customarily depicted as a pure white animal, Pegassus is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon, sired by Medusa upon her death, when Perseus beheaded her. As brother to Chrysaor and uncle to Geryon, he ranks among Greece's most notable creations. With Athena's guidance from afar and Poseidon's support at the site, Pegassus was caught by Greek hero Bellerophon near the renowned fountain Peirene. After agreeing to let him ride, they set out together against the terrifying Chimera. Their victories were numerous, but during a subsequent attempt to conquer Mount Olympus, Bellerophon fell off his winged steed and Zeus turned Pegasus into a constellation, giving rise to the very heavens we observe today as his celestial namesake.
