Peg Board Filament Spool Arm
thingiverse
This is the latest evolution in my relentless pursuit of an optimal filament spool storage system utilizing peg board technology. Two distinct versions of the holder are presented, each designed specifically for narrow and wider filament spools respectively. I have carefully configured a peg board with dimensions of approximately 5 feet wide by 2 feet tall, allowing for twenty spools of filament to be securely attached in two rows of 7 spools separated by a row of 6 spools. The system's footprint extends only slightly beyond the width of the spool from the surface of the peg board. To ensure smooth and efficient filament flow, I have designed a set of innovative filament guide brackets and rollers that facilitate a 90-degree turn, guiding the filament from the spool directly to the printer. These filament guides can be found separately on Thingiverse at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1806664. This robust holding arm is capable of supporting the substantial weight of a full 1 kg filament spool. On the front end of the arm, I have strategically positioned a hole for a 3mm screw to securely attach an identification tag that clearly identifies the color and type of filament stored on that particular arm. To further enhance my storage system, I am utilizing the alien head key chain fob design from Thingiverse at http://www.thingiverse.com/make:256849, printing it in the same color as the filament spool to create a visually appealing identifier tag. Given my primary use of PLA, I currently do not require filament type identifier tags; however, I will be sharing my designs for PLA and ABS identifier tags in the near future. Printer Settings: - Printer Brand: RepRap - Printer Model: PrusaI3 - Supports: Yes - Resolution: .20mm - Infill: 20% - Notes: The pegs in the back print better with support. If support is not utilized, the pegs can be repaired by applying heat from a butane torch to fuse them to the bottom surface of the peg board.
