Peg Board Filament Spool Arm
pinshape
This is the latest evolution in my quest for a high-tech filament spool storage system using advanced peg board technology. There are two versions of the holder here, one designed specifically for narrow filament spools and the other for wider filament spools. I have set up an impressive 5-foot-wide by 2-foot-tall peg board that can accommodate twenty spools of filament in two rows of 7 spools separated by a row of 6 spools. The system extends only slightly more than the width of the spool from the surface of the peg board, maximizing storage space. I have designed an innovative set of filament guide brackets and rollers to help guide the filament from the spool into a seamless 90-degree turn, feeding it smoothly to the printer. These state-of-the-art guides have been published separately on Thingiverse at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1806664. This holding arm is incredibly sturdy, capable of supporting the weight of a full 1 kg filament spool with ease. On the front end of the arm, I have created a hole for a 3mm screw to securely attach an identification tag that identifies the color and type of filament. For my holders, I am using the Alien Head Key Chain Fob printed in the color of the filament on the spool, as designed by Thingiverse at http://www.thingiverse.com/make:256849. Since I primarily print with PLA, I don't require filament type identifier tags at present, but I will be posting my design for PLA and ABS identifier tags soon. Thanks to all who have contributed to this innovative project! **Print Settings** Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: PrusaI3 Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.20mm Infill: 20% Notes: The pegs in the back print better with support, but you can repair them by melting the first few layers that will be hanging from the pegs with a butane torch to fuse them to the bottom surface of the peg.
