Pediment of the funerary monument of Apthonetus
myminifactory
This diminutive pediment topped the aedicule of the funerary monument built by Quadratilla in honor of his father Apthonetus, likely a freedman from Greece, as indicated by the Latin inscription on the pediment. The image of the deceased within a circular frame (clypeus) echoes the style used in portraits of Emperor Hadrian. Although incomplete, the inscription offers valuable insights into the deceased and the dedicator, as well as the location where the monument stood and the tomb's strictly family-oriented nature.
