Pecking Bird
thingiverse
This mechanical gadget, referred to as a fast return actuator, provides amusement by making a bird swing and peck realistically when the crank is turned clockwise. It was once replicated from wood in the past, and now can be designed in Sketchup before being printed. For printing, each part is printed raftless using specific configurations from Makerbot Wiki. Some modifications were done to these settings, such as reducing Object First Layer Feed Rate Infill Multiplier, Object First Layer Feed Rate Perimeter Multiplier and Object First Layer Flow Rate Multiplier, and disabling Outline feature. The washers are printed with a raft to give it a smooth finish on one side, but they can be printed raftlessly as well. Assembly is hassle-free as the washers simply slide onto the shafts.
