In 2005, Banksy, a renowned artist, installed a "cave painting" fragment in one of the Museum's galleries without permission. He even created a fake identification number and label, mimicking the Museum's style with precision. The artwork remained on display for three days before the Museum discovered the hoax through Banksy's website. This remarkable example of primitive art dates back to the Post-Catatonic era and is believed to portray early humans venturing towards distant hunting grounds. The enigmatic artist responsible created a significant body of work across southern England under the pseudonym Banksymus Maximus, but little else is known about his life or artistic vision. Unfortunately, most works of this type have not survived due to zealous officials who fail to appreciate their artistic merit and historical value.
