Pearlware Tea Cup

This exquisite pearlware tea cup was unearthed within the walls of the House for Families at George Washington's storied Mount Vernon estate, where enslaved individuals toiled on the Mansion House Farm. The tea cup's remarkable quality and evident damage suggest that it was bestowed upon an enslaved family by the Washingtons after suffering some form of wear and tear. Utilizing a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner in the archaeology laboratory at George Washington's Mount Vernon, a precise digital image of the tea cup was captured. This outstanding contribution was made possible through the expertise of Virginia Commonwealth University student Jessica Evans. The Virtual Curation Laboratory, courtesy of the esteemed Mount Vernon Ladies Association, generously provided this remarkable digital model for our appreciation and study.
