The Pear of Anguish was used during the Middle Ages as a brutal form of torture targeting women who suffered miscarriages, habitual liars, blasphemers, and homosexuals. A pear-shaped instrument was inserted into one of the victim's orifices: the vagina for women, the anus for men guilty of homosexual acts, and the mouth for persistent liars and blasphemers. This version features a unique left and right-handed screw that pulls the central mechanism downward, causing the leaves to expand outward. The rollers and joints can be secured with fine thread or filament, as I demonstrated, or reinforced with thin brass rods for added strength. To maintain the compact position of the leaves, an O-ring or rubber band should be attached near the joint at the base. Alternatively, a condom can be used over the assembly to ensure easy cleaning and functionality.
