Indoor arenas for physical exercise or sporting events, gymnasiums often serve dual purposes - they host both competitions and concerts. Their intended use helps categorize them into two main types: sports facilities specifically designed for competitive events, and multifunctional centers that support a wide range of activities. From the perspective of equipment installed, they can be grouped as basketball courts, ice hockey arenas, and multi-use track and field stadiums, to name just a few examples. Based on their size, gymnasiums come in large, medium, and small configurations. Currently, China boasts more than 8,000 larger sports complexes known as big stadiums, while smaller indoor facilities with fewer than 3,000 seats are classified as mid-sized venues. On occasion, these expansive indoor spaces transform into thriving performing arts centers, hosting diverse performances alongside sporting events.
