PeaceCAD VZ 58
thingiverse
The PeaceCAD vases are a thought-provoking response to DEFCAD/Defense Distributed's efforts to release 3D printable and other CAD models of firearms to the general public. Recently, the concept of 3D printed guns has ignited fierce debate in the media. Opponents argue that these untraceable weapons will lead to increased chaos in our communities, while proponents believe that their distribution falls within the realm of free speech. Unforeseen consequences abound, and one of them is that it would ultimately serve as a container for flowers. Inspired by Bernie Boston's iconic photograph, flower power, components of 3D printed guns are repurposed to create a vase. The larger vase is constructed from parts of the VZ.58, while the smaller vase is made from the infamous Liberator gun. In the center of each vase is a single bullet that the gun would have been capable of firing. The vase presents a richly conflicted narrative, an object of violence transformed into a vessel for peace. Under the same principles as DEFCAD, both vases are available for free download and have been shared on social media using the hashtag #PeaceCAD. I urge the public to exercise their right to free speech by doing with the object as they see fit.
