PeaceCAD Liberator

thingiverse

The PeaceCAD vases serve as a satirical commentary on DEFCAD / Defense Distributed's petitions to release 3D printable and other CAD models of firearms to the public. The debate over 3D printed guns has ignited intense controversy in recent times, with opponents warning that these untraceable weapons will wreak havoc in our neighborhoods while proponents argue that distributing them falls under the banner of free speech. One unforeseen consequence that its authors could hardly have anticipated is that it would ultimately result in holding flowers. Inspired by Bernie Boston's iconic photo of "flower power," components of 3D printed guns are repurposed to form a vase. The larger vase is crafted from pieces of the VZ-58, while the smaller one is fashioned from the notorious Liberator gun. A single bullet that the gun would be capable of firing is placed in the center of each vase. The vase presents a beautifully conflicted narrative, an object of violence reimagined to hold an object of peace. Under the same pretenses as DEFCAD, both vases have been made available for download at no cost and shared on social media under the hashtag #PeaceCAD. I urge the public to exercise their right of free speech by doing whatever they desire with this object.
