Peace Contest Gravity Water Filter Coupler
thingiverse
Create a water filter without spending much by using sterilized sand, charcoal, and two empty soda bottles connected with an ingenious coupler. This device allows for gravity-fed filtration of water through the use of these simple materials. The coupler, designed to fit standard pop bottle threads, ensures a leak-proof connection and is available in bright colors for easy visibility. To assemble, cut one soda bottle below its midpoint, fill the upper half with charcoal and the lower half with sand (previously baked at 250°F for 3 hours), place a cloth over the sand to act as a pre-filter, and connect the two bottles using the coupler. In emergency situations, instructions for this simple water filter could be broadcast on radio and posted in key locations, providing access to clean drinking water and promoting safety and wellbeing. Feedback is encouraged for further improvement of the coupler design.
