PEA Cage Trusses

This is an exact replica of the trusses from Phillips Exeter Academy's beloved Cage, which served student athletes from 1929 until its closure in 2014. Over its 85-year lifespan, countless students forged unforgettable memories and achieved remarkable milestones within that revered field house. For instance, my father recalls his own triumphs with crystal clarity, including the time he cleared an astonishing 13-foot height while pole vaulting, a feat confirmed by his own recollections despite the blueprints' suggestion that the raised track surrounding the perimeter was only 10 feet 6 inches high. In May of 2016, I obtained the original blueprints and began constructing this model but lacked the inspiration to see it through until January 27, 2018, when the brand-new William Boyce Thompson Field House opened to great fanfare. The event was a resounding success, striking an ideal balance between honoring the Cage's rich history and embracing a forward-looking vision for the future.
