This collar lets you insert a 0.2 mL PCR tube into a 1.5 mL tube. A set of 24 pieces prints in about 1.5 hours at 60 mm/s with a 0.40 mm nozzle. The collar's low profile lets me fit PCR tubes into machines like tissue lysers, making it an extremely convenient grinder-to-thermocycler workflow! You can also centrifuge PCR tubes in a larger machine now. Test your own tubes and prints to make sure they can withstand centrifugation at the forces, periods, and temperatures you need before risking samples. This collar cannot help if you use weak or low-quality tubes! Post-printing, collars are a secure press-fit into 1.5 mL tubes with an inner diameter of 9.00 mm. Cut off the lids on your 1.5 mL tubes to make them easier to handle. If the fit of your smaller tubes is too tight, expand the openings using a knife-edge reamer tool. A friend's old design delaminated along print layers while she was centrifuging something. I redesigned to prevent this from happening to anyone else. May 7, 2017: Tapered the top of the adapter into a flat dome, making it easier to uncap and remove tubes.
