This compact and tidy drill press stand is designed for use with laser printer engines that are widely available on eBay and AliExpress. This project builds upon the original design by Mark Benson found on Thingiverse, with several improvements implemented. Designed to accommodate an engine body sized L=35-60mm D=30mm, the stand's base hole has been shifted to center the drill based on the new motor diameter. Three 3mm super-light LED holders have been added to focus light on the drilling area, increasing visibility and precision. A printed circuit board (PCB) with a voltage regulator and connector for standard notebook power units has been integrated into the design. This PCB can be easily swapped out for other power sources up to 24v by changing only the connector. Bill of Materials Mechanics - ABS or PLA filament - Drill chuck - M5 Threaded rod (approximately 110mm) - Threaded rod M8 (around 95mm and 80mm). One is used for the stand, while the second serves as a gear for the fixed slider. - 6x M8 nyloc nuts (better 8x for stand tightening) - 4x 8mm washers - 9x M3 18mm bolts - 10x M3 nuts - 6x 3mm washers - 6x 3x12mm screws Electronics - Motor from a printer with body diameter 30mm and length between 35-60mm - Female-Female DuPont wires (approximately 10cm, six in total) - 3x White LED, 3mm - 2.54mm two-wire connector - Jack plug (matching diameters of your notebook power unit connector) - Notebook power unit - Two three-pin male header - LM7805 or LM7812 voltage regulator - 0.1uF and 0.33uF capacitors - Three 100 Ohm resistors (or 390 Ohm for LM7812 usage) - Prototype board or etched PCB Instructions Overall, assembly instructions can be easily deduced from images and renders provided. Two points to note: firstly, you will need to fix the LED inside their mount using hot glue gun; just a small spot on each is required. The hot glue needle can be used for easy removal if needed in the future. Secondly, replace M3 nuts with washers between the PCB and the slider. This is necessary for creating enough space for solder joints and SMD components to connect properly.
