The Consolidated PBY Catalina was an American amphibious aircraft produced by Consolidated Aircraft in the 1930s and 40s. It served as a widely used seaplane during World War II, with various branches of the United States Armed Forces and other nations' air forces and navies employing it. Utilized in anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, convoy escorts, search & rescue missions, and cargo transport, the PBY was a highly versatile aircraft. Despite being succeeded by more modern planes, some active military PBYs were still in service until the 1980s. Today, nearly 80 years after its first flight, this iconic plane continues to operate as an aerial firefighter worldwide. The "PBY" designation follows the 1922 U.S. Navy aircraft naming system: "PB" for "Patrol Bomber," and "Y" representing Consolidated Aircraft's manufacturer code. It is powered by Kamyar Radial Engine.
