The Navy Designated Patrol Boat, River or PBR as its Small Rigid-Hulled Patrol Vessel Used in Vietnam War Starting from March 1966 until the end of 1971. The Force of Boats Deployed Grew to a Total of 250 Boats, Which Were the Most Common Craft Utilized by the River Patrol Force and Task Force 116 to Conduct Stops and Searches on River Traffic Within Areas Such as the Mekong Delta, the Rung Sat Special Zone, the Saigon River, and I Corps. These PBRs Are Agile and Flexible Vessels with Fiberglass Hulls Equipped with Water Jet Drives That Enable Them to Navigate Through Shallow Waters Laden with Weeds and Operate in Harsh Environmental Conditions. Pivoting of Drives Enables Direction Change or Come to a Stop Quickly From Full Speed in Several Boat Lengths, Showing the Craft's Exceptional Maneuverability. A Limited Number of These Vessels Continue to Remain Operational up until 1995 with the US Naval Reserve at Mare Island, California Prior to the Closure Due to BRAC Action That Year, However a Few Others Have Been Retired and Preserved in Museums While Private Collectors Now Possess Others.
