Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix

The iconic Statue of Pauline Bonaparte as "Venus Victorious" stands proudly at the Museo Gipsoteca Antonio Canova in Possagno, Italy. This remarkable reproduction is a faithful copy of an original marble masterpiece created by the skilled hands of Antonio Canova between 1805 and 1808. Pauline Bonaparte was a distinguished Italian noblewoman, renowned as the first sovereign Duchess of Guastalla, an imperial French Princess, and the Princess consort of Sulmona and Rossano. Born on October 20, 1780, she was the sixth child of Letizia Ramolino and Carlo Buonaparte, Corsica's representative to the court of King Louis XVI of France. Her older brother, Napoleon, would go on to become the first Emperor of the French. In her personal life, Pauline Bonaparte married Charles Leclerc, a French general, but their union was tragically cut short by his death in 1802. Later, she wed Camillo Borghese, 6th Prince of Sulmona, and had one child, Dermide Leclerc, from her first marriage, who sadly passed away in childhood. A unique aspect of Pauline Bonaparte's life is that she was the only sibling to visit Napoleon on his principality, Elba.
