PatrickShip container locking device
grabcad
The container locking system is an auto-lock mechanism between containers, featuring four locking devices installed diagonally atop each container. The devices consist of minimal parts: a lower part with two "fingers," an upper part, a shaft, an optional gravity-activated locking arm, and an optional handle. To secure the containers, one simply pushes the lower part's fingers into the top corners without tools. When another container rests on top, the upper part's finger locks into place due to weight, creating a sturdy 4-corner system. The locking mechanism automatically disengages when lifting the top container. Optional extra locking arms can provide additional security and visual confirmation of proper locking. This simple yet robust design ensures little maintenance is required, with lockers weighing approximately 3.5 kg in aluminum. Key advantages include easy mounting without tools, automatic handling, self-centering, color-coded simplicity, tolerance flexibility, remote arm handling, and gravity-assisted locking. A video demonstrates the system's functionality using a scaled plastic prototype, emphasizing that four lockers working together provide a firm connection.
