Pastruder (Direct Drive) Concept
thingiverse
RichRap has finally developed a functional design for a 3D printed glue gun using a belt and a common-sized syringe. You can find the updated design at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:20733. The current model takes advantage of discarded glass bottle necks as an alternative to proprietary syringes, promoting recycling and allowing users to customize their nozzles. However, the design is still in its alpha stage and requires some further refining. A few challenges with the current design include the motor being upside down and the height of the motor limiting the plunger's travel distance. The designer is considering adding a groove to the end of the plunger to fit a rubber O-ring for a better seal. If you have digital calipers, measurements of widely available glass bottles would be helpful. The nozzle STL will be released once the thread issue is resolved. Suggestions for clamping slippery glass cylinders and alternative methods of plunger movement are welcome.
