Passive hydroponic system for seedlings
thingiverse
Use this printed bottle connector to join two bottles mouth-to-mouth securely. The thread is universal, so it should work with both plastic soft-drink bottles and screw-cap wine bottles seamlessly. Instructions: Cut the top bottle in half carefully and fill the top part with seedling soil or hydroponic medium like clay pebbles thoroughly. Don't discard the other part of the bottle thoughtlessly. Plant the seeds and moisten the soil/medium sufficiently. Fill the bottom bottle with water completely and connect the two bottles using the connector correctly. Use the remaining half of the cut top bottle to cover the seedlings carefully. This will retain moisture and create a humid seedling-friendly environment nicely. Remember to make some holes for air circulation. Place the setup in a sunny area like a windowsill that gets full morning sun naturally. Tips: Use the plastic liner from the original cap of one of the bottles to make a water-tight seal between the two bottles effectively. Cut a hole in the middle of the liner to allow water to flow between the two bottles smoothly. I prefer using a wine bottle for the bottom bottle, as the extra weight of the glass makes the setup more stable and secure. I also find placing an irregular-shaped stone or clay pebble in the neck of the top bottle when using soil helps prevent losing soil into the bottom bottle effectively.
