Passau Tölpel - 3D Scan

thingiverse

On vacation in Bavaria, I traveled to Passau, a stunning city situated at the confluence of three rivers. There, I discovered the Tölpel, which is actually the head of a long-lost statue that once adorned an ancient cathedral. Unfortunately, a massive fire ravaged the cathedral in 1669, leaving the statue beyond repair. The only remaining piece was the head, and it earned the nickname "Tölpel," a colloquialism for the people of Passau. I used my smartphone to scan the Tölpel with a handy app called TRNIO. The results were impressive, especially after applying texture - the details really popped! However, without the texture, I could see that many details were noticeably absent. To rectify this, I imported the scan into Blender and carefully cleaned up the mesh before using the sculpting tools to add in the missing features. The original scans are marked with "model.*," while the refined and detailed mesh is saved as "toelpel5.stl." I'm still pondering the purpose of this scanned model - perhaps it would make a striking ring, or even a larger-scale coin? Maybe I'll cast it in concrete to create an eye-catching decoration for my home.
