Half of the North frieze resides within the British Museum, while the remaining half is housed at the Acropolis museum. Spanning a total length of 58.70 meters, the North frieze unfolds as a continuous narrative that originates from the northwest corner of the opisthonaos and flows seamlessly into the procession already in progress on the west side, unifying blocks N XLVII to N I. The action builds gradually from quiet anticipation to an exhilarating gallop, with horsemen depicted in groups of seven or eight, their horses partly overlapping as they move in a fluid sequence. The continuous flow is momentarily interrupted only by the marshal (90) situated on block XXXIV. Despite the uniformity of the scenes, the diversity of garment, stance, and gesture among the most beautiful horsemen, combined with occasional depictions of individuals turning to glance back, effectively avoids monotony.
