Athena stands facing the procession, her right hand grasping a bronze spear that was once attached but is now missing. Beside her is Hephaistos, the lame smith-god, who leans on a crutch placed under his armpit. The east frieze consists of eight or nine blocks, with V being 4.50 m in length, while the corner blocks are narrow because they form part of blocks I and XLVII from other sides. The surviving blocks are scattered among museums: II and VI remain on the Acropolis, I, III-V, VIII are in the British Museum, and VII is in the Louvre. Fragments are also found in the British Museum and Palermo's Archaeological Museum. The Parthenon frieze forms a continuous band with scenes in low relief that encircles the upper part of the cella within the outer colonnade. The theme represented is the procession toward the Acropolis during the Great Panathenaia, which commemorates Athena's birthday. Numbering comes from I. Jenkins' 1994 work, "The Parthenon Frieze." Slabs are marked with Roman numerals and people with Arabic numerals.
